Artist Bio

Abraham Hailemichael Awalom, born in Harar Ethiopia, is an Eritrean figurative and semi abstract painter. As a child, he was initially inspired by the expressions of traditional and spiritual art and has ever evolved and displayed a unique talent in many solo and group art exhibitions since 1997. He has expressed his thought and interpretation of life in paintings through the media of acrylic, oil and watercolors. He was also involved in commissioned art projects for different organizations at the national and international level including the National Museum of Eritrea.

After completing his studies at Asmara School of Art in 1998, he has been developing and refining his own unique technique and collaborated with many local and international Modern artists. Many of his paintings were displayed abroad including in Sudan, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and the USA.

His recent inspirations have been objects that are wrapped up in their surroundings in an attempt “to depict the spirit of the inward and outward relationships between them."

At the first edition of art competition organized by the Donkey Art Prize, Verona, Italy, his work was selected for display at the venue of choice among 35 painters in 2010.

Among others, one of his biggest contributions to art at a national level in Eritrea was his dedicated involvement in completing a large scale ‘’Public Education and Art” project at 32 sites commissioned by UNICEF Eritrea.

Abraham has been a full time studio painter and left Eritrea in 2014. He currently lives and works in Seattle, Washington, USA.
